Supported Regions and Currencies
Understand the current currency zones and market coverage supported by Genuka Pay.
Introduction
Genuka Pay currently operates across two main currency zones. Your integration should model currencies explicitly and never reduce them to a generic FCFA label.
Currencies
Use explicit ISO codes such as XAF and XOF in storage, APIs, and
merchant displays.
Regional Coverage
Supported markets are grouped across Central African and West African currency zones.
Supported Currency Zones
| Currency | Label | Region |
|---|---|---|
XAF | Central African CFA Franc | CEMAC |
XOF | West African CFA Franc | UEMOA |
Central Africa (XAF)
Supported countries:
- Cameroon
- Gabon
- Chad
- Central African Republic
- Republic of the Congo
- Equatorial Guinea
West Africa (XOF)
Supported countries:
- Côte d’Ivoire
- Senegal
- Mali
- Burkina Faso
- Togo
- Benin
Integration Rule
Always persist and display the ISO code explicitly.
Use:
1,000 XAF1,000 XOF
Avoid:
1,000 FCFA
Why this matters
XAF and XOF are not interchangeable. They are different currency codes,
even if merchants or end users may casually refer to both as FCFA.
Product Implications
For integration and operations, this means:
- multiple operator markets behind one API surface
- distinct country coverage across regions
- the need for explicit currency-aware pricing, reporting, and reconciliation
Recommendations
- store both
amountandcurrencytogether - validate currency consistency across requests and ledger events
- review region support before launching country-specific features
